Wk19: Banana "Ice Cream"

The process [thekitchn.com] involves freezing bananas and then blending them.  Done.  I added a bit of chocolate chips and busted out my trusty Magic Bullet to see what would happen.  First, some take away:
  • Really freeze your bananas.  I tried an hour, but I think at least two would be better.
  •  Use a real blender with adjustable speed.  The bullet was too fast and I think it defrosted the bananas rather than blending them.  The mess did look like melted ice cream, though.
The banana flavor really comes out, so make sure that is something you are looking for.  I've seen recommendations to use honey or some other syrup to cut the palate, but that is a personal call.  I'm going to have to try this experiment again with my above advise to get a better consistency.  I like the idea of making a simple ice cream, but it wasn't ice cream.  If you have dietary restrictions this is probably a great substitute.  If I served this for guests, I'd tell them it is blended, frozen bananas; not ice cream.
